Compliance, business continuity and sustainability for GSK across Europe

We can be your single partner to optimise your pharmaceutical water cycle, from purified water and water for injection, to wastewater and reuse. With proven experience supporting leading pharmaceutical manufacturers across Europe, we understand the unique challenges GSK faces in maintaining world-class production standards while advancing ambitious sustainability targets.

How can we solve your challenges and why choose to partner with Veolia?

Veolia delivers comprehensive water treatment solutions that enable operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainability goals across the pharmaceutical lifecycle. From the UK to Italy, our local teams provide responsive support while maintaining global quality standards.

complianceEnsuring GMP and Pharmacopoeias compliance

Our technologies ensure that your water systems consistently meet GMP, Europe and United States Pharmacopoeia, and other relevant industry standards. We provide complete documentation support, validation protocols, and regular system audits to maintain regulatory readiness. By staying ahead of evolving regulations, we help pharmaceutical multinationals like GSK anticipate and adapt to new requirements before they affect operations.

effluentManaging effluent compliance and environmental regulations

Pharmaceutical wastewater containing APIs, solvents, and other compounds must meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Our wastewater treatment solutions are designed to handle complex pharmaceutical effluents while ensuring compliance with local and EU regulations and meet corporate sustainability targets simultaneously.

downtimePreventing costly downtime and production interruptions

At GSK’s critical production sites, planned maintenance, unexpected equipment failures or capacity limits can put business continuity at risk. Our mobile water treatment units provide immediate, GMP-compliant backup to keep operations running during system upgrades, emergencies or peak demand. We also offer mobile wastewater treatment solutions to manage effluents during maintenance or capacity expansion.

Water qualityDealing with variable feed water quality

Fluctuating feed water quality, seasonal variations, and changing source water characteristics can compromise system performance and product quality. Whether your GSK facility uses municipal, well or surface water, our advanced treatment technologies and real-time monitoring systems manage variability while consistently delivering pharmaceutical-grade water. Customised processes, robust pre-treatment and continuous quality monitoring ensure stable output regardless of incoming water fluctuations.

reduce opexReducing high operating costs

Supporting GSK's operational efficiency and cost optimisation goals, our advanced Hubgrade digital monitoring platform elevates water systems’ performance.  Real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance reduce unplanned downtime and improve reliability. Our data-driven insights help optimise efficiency and cut operating costs across your European facility network.

system managementComplex system management

Pharmaceutical water systems are complex and interdependent. Our comprehensive solutions encompass the complete lifecycle of your water systems, from initial design through installation and ongoing optimisation. For organisations like GSK managing multiple water systems across lines and applications, we ensure assets operate at peak efficiency while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.

multiple supplier-1Managing multiple suppliers and vendors

Many GSK facilities currently manage separate vendors for equipment, chemicals, services, and maintenance—creating complexity and inefficiency. As your single-source partner, Veolia integrates all aspects of water treatment—equipment, chemicals, digital tools, and services—into one comprehensive program. This reduces administrative workload, improves coordination, clarifies accountability and enhances overall system performance.

sustainabilityMeeting sustainability targets

Aligned with GSK's ambitious environmental commitments, we help pharmaceutical manufacturers achieve their sustainability goals without compromising quality or output. Our solutions minimise environmental impact while maximising operational efficiency through advanced water recycling, energy-efficient technologies and optimised chemical programmes—reducing your facility’s footprint while supporting sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Over 20 years of partnership at an R&D facility

Veolia has partnered with a multinational pharmaceutical company for over 20 years at its UK R&D facility, delivering reliable ultra-pure water treatment solutions. The partnership features Veolia's Orion™ multi-technology system and the Sirion™ advanced RO solution, both meeting strict pharmaceutical standards (FDA, cGMP, European/US/Japanese Pharmacopoeia). Key results include consistently high pharmaceutical-grade water quality, minimal operational disruptions during upgrades, and enhanced sustainability through the use of energy-efficient technologies and wastewater recovery systems.

Upgrade of the existing water treatment plant without disrupting operations

A multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer in Northern France needed to replace an outdated water treatment unit that was inefficient and costly to maintain at its major production facility. Veolia’s Orion™ system improved water recovery from 70% to 90% and delivered 10% energy savings compared to the existing unit. Veolia was able to install the new unit without disrupting operations by commissioning it before removing the old system, continuing their 10-year partnership with the site.

Over 10 years of partnership at a vaccine production facility

A multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer in Belgium partnered with Veolia for over 10 years to expand purified water capacity at its vaccine production facility. Veolia installed 16 customised Orion™ units that meet all major pharmacopoeia standards (Ph Eur, USP, JP), and are FDA/cGMP compliant. Veolia also provides 24/7 service support and scheduled maintenance, helping the manufacturer meet both stringent quality requirements and sustainability goals while minimising downtime and environmental impact.
